Activity Description

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, New Walk Museum was given hundreds of ancient Egyptian objects from British excavations on sites throughout Egypt dating from prehistoric times (10,000 plus years ago) until the rise of Christianity (300-400 AD). This important collection will soon be redisplayed across two galleries at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery allowing nearly three times the amount of objects to be accessible to the public than seen previously.

The new Egyptology galleries will open to the public on the 20th of October 2018. To support this, we have restructured the schools learning workshop and the new ‘Meet the Mummies’ session will give pupils an in-depth understanding of life in ancient Egypt.

The refreshed session has been interspersed with hands -on activities and new resources, to include new dressing up clothes, masks, accessories, timeline cards and artefacts.

The session is divided up into several sections which all have active approaches that engage pupils in discussion, handling artefacts and hands-on activities.

Please get in touch to find out more and book your visit.
