The Virtual Orchestra School Workshops
Activity Description
Experience The Virtual Orchestra in Leicester and step inside the Philharmonia Orchestra.
The Virtual Orchestra is a digital symphony orchestra on your doorstep, powered by the Philharmonia Orchestra.
What is inside The Virtual Orchestra?
An immersive 10-room installation showcases the internal workings of the Philharmonia as the Orchestra perform Holst’s The Planets, conducted by Principal Conductor, Esa-Pekka Salonen. The installation invites you to step inside the Orchestra to witness each section playing their part. With over 37 screens, journey your way through the installation from violins to percussion, and from Mercury to Neptune.
Alongside, try our award-winning Virtual Reality experience. Put on VR headsets and headphones and be whisked to London’s Royal Festival Hall to see a performance of Sibelius’ Fifth Symphony from inside the Orchestra. This is a 360-degree experience: recorded with 3D audio as well as 3D visuals, you hear each and every instrument as you turn to see the Philharmonia Orchestra all around you.
Bring your group to one of The Virtual Orchestra workshops suitable for Primary, Secondary and Special Needs Schools as well as community groups of all ages.
Led by experienced workshop leaders, these workshops are guided, interactive tours through the installation and Virtual Reality experience. Giving everyone the opportunity to experience a symphony orchestra up-close, no matter what their age or experience, these workshops will deepen their understanding and appreciation of the world of the orchestra and the repertoire through interactive technology and activities.
