Workshop

Activity Description

An amazing offer for your school art club or gifted and talented group of up to 20 key stage 2 pupils. A free full day session at Newarke Houses Museum learning about the First World War through our WWI exhibition and trench experience, through arts and performance activities, and an investigation of war art both today and in the past, all culminating in the opportunity to gain Arts Award Discover. A discount of £50 towards your transport costs offered to City Classroom member schools.
Arrive at Newarke Houses Museum for a 9:30am start, explore our WWI exhibition and visit the trench experience. Write letters home and perform these to the group. Use silhouette images of soldiers on the Western Front to create silk painted banners reflecting the experience of war, and create a colourful collaborative textile wreath to commemorate the 'Unremembered' Commonwealth Labour Corps. Interview a present day artist and investigate key war artists both from the WWI era and modern conflicts. Finish your day between 2:30 and 3pm for a return to school.
There is the opportunity for two schools to take part in this offer, either on Thursday January 24th or Thursday January 31st 2019 - first come first served (please state which date is preferred and whether a City Classroom member). Children will need to bring a packed lunch.
